Here is my Out There assignment, done after the Space Gallery show. I was inspired by the use of distortion as a message to preserve culture in a new way. My background is Dutch, and I immigrated here only 4 years ago, but in that time a lot of culture changes occurred in the Netherlands. The one thing that facinated me the most was the sudden disappearance of the word “Uitverkoop” which has been replaced with the English word “sale”. I wanted to create a permanent memento to that word, which went extinct for the sole reason that it was just too long. Featured in here also are some traditional images assosiated with the Netherlands, but each distorted and difficult to recognize.
