I love playing so much, for me playing is a must in my everyday life! Even though I am in university now, I can’t survive without my Nintendo DS…It sounds ridiculous to many people but playing for me is very very important in my life!
The original definition of play means to amuse other people, as by taking part in a game; engage in recreation. However, in terms of new media, play is one of the most important elements in experience design.
A good design needs to amuse and enjoy by users, people are having interactions with the design product, which is what I call play as an interactive media. In addition, play is also very important during brainstorming because it can gives you good ideas throughout the playing process. We watched a video about a design company in Professor Gorbert’s class before, and every staff in that design company has a play area, they can play when they are working in order to brainstorm ideas. This works perfectly because they are always inspired during the playing process.
There is a huge relationship between play and new media, playing are needed during the designing process; amusement and enjoyment are needed in the finished product. As a result, playing is not just a physical happy movement, but is an element in experience design.
