Play Time ( What is Play ?)
By Liat Shalom.
Play is time spent having fun. It takes on different forms for different individuals,To me, play could be a fun moment, a game shared with friends, a moment of allowing my self to be silly,or even just fiddling with photoshop; any moment in which I can get lost in fun. As for why play is important, I think separating time for your brain to just relax and enjoy a game or a social interaction, of sorts is important to balance out all the stressful emotions and thoughts that we incur in our day-to-day lives.
I want to mention one definition I came across in my research in an article on play in early child development by Francis Wardle, an instructor at the University of Phoenix ,Colorado. defines play as “child-centred learning.”
I find, as well, play teaches us valuable life-skills such as winning and losing, teamwork, and general getting along and cooperating with others.
For these reasons, I find play to be a very important part in any child’s development.
Play is a big part of our social development, and an important part of human interaction interaction .
As designers, it is important to be aware of play as an interaction and as a way to engage and entice our audience.
If used correctly, everyone wants to play so, as artist, we just have to find a way to make our works playful and engaging.
